Frequently Asked Questions

It is not recommended to add Simple Green or other cleaners to the water in the Drop In RC Tire Washer.  Most of these cleaners are de-greasers that will wash the lubricants from the shaft bearings.  If you do use a cleaning agent a small amount will do, but check your shaft bearings frequently.

1. Pump jammed:  Dirt and small objects can jam up the pump impeller.  You can pull the pump out of the rubber grommet and tap it on the table, which may dislodge the object.  Make sure the foam filter is properly installed as this helps to block small objects from the pump intake.

2. How is your power source?  Most of the newer model tire washers with the waterproof electrical box (Black Box) can use a 2S lipo battery to power the pump as long as the battery is properly charged.  A low charge state may not provide enough voltage to activate the 12 volt relay in the black box.  A 3S Lipo battery or 12 volt DC power supply is a better choice for powering the sprayer system.

About Us

Clean Tires for Every Race

Off road and dirt oval R/C racers need clean tires for every race to be at the top of their game.  Washing tires at the track can be hit or miss with each facility.  At best, you will get a wash tub and a scrub brush, and at a big race, you may stand in line.  The Drop In tire washer lets you quickly wash your tires without leaving your pit area and takes the drudgery out of tire washing!

Who We Are

My name is Bob Mellen.  I am a former business owner who enjoys racing R/C cars since I retired from the working world in 2012.  I have raced 1/10 and 1/8 off-road and switched to dirt oval racing a few years ago.

The idea of a better way to clean RC tires became obvious to me while standing in line at the wash station of my local RC track many years ago.  I spent my career programming, repairing and building CNC machine tools and wondered why there wasn't a better way to do this!

My first tire washer was hacked together from a bunch of left over parts and sprayed water everywhere, but it worked and proved the concept of using a sprayer and rollers instead of brushes to clean a tire.  It was bulky, and would have been expensive to reproduce, but it worked.  Another model based on a 5 gallon pail floated around in my brain for a while, but again proved impractical.

While shopping in a sporting goods store a few years ago, I saw the orange dry box that I use today, and the Drop In R/C Tire Washer was born.  It was portable, tidy, reproducible and a hit with my fellow racers.  It continues to evolve and I hope you find it a welcome addition to your racing enjoyment.
